Water filtration
Water filtration and softener buying guides
Whole-house filters, water softeners, reverse osmosis systems and well water treatment run from a few hundred to several thousand dollars installed. The right system depends on what's actually in your water, so the first step is a water test, not a product.
Guides coming soon. We haven't published any guides in this section yet. We'd rather show you an empty shelf than filler. When we do, they'll follow the same editorial policy as our generator and air conditioning guides: specs from manufacturers, sources linked, no fake testing claims.
What we plan to cover
- Test first: city water reports (Consumer Confidence Reports) vs private well testing
- Whole-house filter vs softener vs both, and what each one actually removes
- Reverse osmosis: under-sink vs whole-house, wastewater and remineralization
- Well water systems: iron, sulfur, bacteria and UV treatment
- Certifications that matter (NSF/ANSI standards) and how to check them
Safety note: Whole-house systems tie into your main water line, and many areas require a licensed plumber and a permit, plus a proper drain for softener and RO discharge. If you're on a private well, test for bacteria and nitrates before buying any equipment.
